†   Abyssal Chronicles Version 2:Dimension   † - News - A Few Questions About Abyss (Please Comment~)
| >> A Few Questions About Abyss (Please Comment~)

It's almost time for the airing of the first Tales of the Abyss anime episode. Almost everything's ready at our end, but we're still having some problems with the translations. Our translator, Yume Hanabi, would like to hear your opinions about the following. Please pick your choice and answer in a comment. We'd appreciate as many answers as we can receive (we're conducting a survey).
1.) Fonon/Fonist (US game Translation) or Fonim/Fonimmer (Japanese gameTranslation)? 2.) Legretta (US) or Regret (Japanese)? 3.) Dist the Reaper (US) or Dist the Demon (Japanese)? 4.) About honorifics (sorry if I wasn't clear on this) should we use the US honorifics or the Jap honorifics? For example: How Luke is called by: Anise: Just "Luke" or "Master Luke" (US game) or "Luke-sama"/"Mr. Luke" as Yume suggested (JP game) the maids: Master Luke (US game) or Luke-sama (Jap game) How Van is called by: Oracle Knights: Commandant Grants (US game) or Grants-soucho (Jap) For number 4, please answer whether US honorifics or Japanese honorifics. Sorry if I wasn't clear on this! 5.) The most controversial. For Mieu, "Butazaru/Pig Monkey" (JP game) or "Thing" (US game)?
Thank you very much! Please, if you have time, comment with your opinions on this.

1- Fonon/ Fonist 2- I rather Regret, but I don't mind if you choose Legretta 3- Dist the Reaper of course! Dist the Demon sounds... weird Oo 4- I agree with Virginia. Just keep -san, -sama and -chan and translate the other honorifics (my japanese culture is a limited there xD) 5- Thing. I'm too used to it and it suits more Mieu than "Pig Monkey" =3

1. Fonon and Fonist. 2. Regret. 3. No, no, no, it's Dist the ROSE! (sorry... Dist the Reaper) 4. ... ooh, this one is difficult. I think it would look the best if you left in honorifics like -san, -sama, and -chan, but translated things like Doushi (Fon Master) and Souchou (Commandant). Or just translate everything. 5. I like Thing more, but alternating between Thing and Pig-Monkey would be fine.
Thank you so much for taking the time to sub these. I love Abyss~

1. Fonon/Fonist 2. Legretta 3. Dist the Reaper/ Runny XD 4. Just "Luke" or "Master Luke" for Oracle Knights: Commandant Grants 5. Thing (sounds better that way)

Everything US (perhaps aside from point 2). I'll put special emphasis on point 5 : seeing something along the lines of "You butazaru!" right in the middle of an english sentence would be an eyesore and not make much sense.

1. Fonon/Fonist 2. Legretta. 3. Dist the Reaper. 4. I'm okay with the Japanese honorifics, though 'Master Luke' would be alright, too. 5. Thing. It's funnier. :3

1. Fonon/Fonist 2. Legretta 3. Dist the Reaper 4. Indifferent honestly. US or Japanese. 5. "Thing" (Had to be one of the most amusing elements of the game.) I liked most all of the ascepts of the US Version. Honorifics can go either way for me.

I think, out of all of them, there are more US versions of all those things best. I *do* enjoy the idea of Anise calling Luke "Luke-sama" though.
If nothing else, call Mieu "Thing". I never get tired of that when Luke says it. <3

1. Fonon/Fonist. 2. Regret. I agree with Kelocena on this. 3. I'm indifferent about this honestly. 4. Japanese honorifics. 5. Butazaru. I find it more entertaining, though Thing is more demeaning.

1. Fonon/Fonist 2. Legretta 3. Dist the Reaper 4. Luke-sama!~ (or just Luke) and Commandant Grants 5. 'Thing', I guess, though I think both are a little weird XD;
Thank you very much for subbing! ^^

I already posted about this on the forums under that topic. I feel most strongly about about 2 and 5. I have valid arguments!
